Are you a fan of Sci-Fi movies and potted plants? I know, a pretty far catch. But what if you could get a somewhat sentient robot that cares for your plants?
Alright, alright, it’s not plural … it’s just ONE plant!
Hexa is a robot, thought and created by the hands & minds of Vincross. Fundamentally, Hexa was created as a six-legged, highly adaptable robot that functions as a platform for anyone interested in the fields of robotics. Buyers are given the freedom to learn and give functionalities to the robot.
But Tianqi Sun, the CEO of Vincross, had another thing in mind.
Sun, who was at a conference, noticed a still-withered-sunflower, dead from being placed at a sunless-corner. Metaphorically, and probably a tree-lover, that impacted Sun to code Hexa with a function to do just that.
“Plants are passive. No matter if they are being cut, burned or pulled from the earth, they hold still and take whatever is happening to them. They have the fewest degrees of freedom among all the creatures in nature.” Sun reasoning with the redesigning of Hexa. (Yikes!)
Hexa, accompanied by its ability to learn, gave Sun an idea to put a plant on the crown of Hexa’s head. Sun, remodelled Hexa to chase the Sun, (Pun intended) making Hexa walk towards the closest point of the sun’s ray.
This combined with Hexa’s mobility to foreign terrain, provided the perfect medium for plants, and their need for constant sunlight. Along being its sentient caretaker, Hexa will notify the owner with a crab-dance if the plant is in need of watering refreshments. Once watered, and both Hexa and the plant are happy, the bot will grace you with a dance. (Could you call the ‘Robot’?)
Prices go for a techno-boggling US$949 for Hexa, it may be a large bank-sum of cash, but look at the returns in paying! After all, you do get a pretty cool robot! (Let’s hope this won’t turn out like the Terminator movies!)
Will you be getting yourself a Hexa or do you think humans can do a better job? Tell us in the comments!
I don’t know about you, but the Neue team and I have this sudden urge to go on a shopping spree (thanks bosses!) at Toys R Us in Brunei. I’m sure we’ll find something as cool as the Hexa 🙂 Any suggestions?
