There’s always something to do in Brunei, especially on the weekends. Here are some of our personal favourites.
#1. Simple Life In Tutong

Tourists, mostly backpackers, from more than 25 countries have had the pleasure of experiencing the “simple life” at Eco Ponies Garden, a family-run community farm stay that’s about an hour’s drive (approximately 45 kilometres) from the Brunei capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
According to Eyon Ukoi, the co-founder of Eco Ponies Garden, the initial target of this project was to promote agriculture. However, visitors seem more interested in the food served here.
“Most people come here to sample our traditional home-cooked meals that are prepared from the freshest of ingredients,” she said, adding that most of them are locally foraged from the jungle surroundings.
Be sure to book a timeslot before making the trip here. For more information, call +6737377504.
“It’s a good place to disconnect yourself from the hustle and bustle of everyday life,” said Azaraimy. “However, I’d highly recommend bringing along mosquito repellent!”
#2. Water Village Retreat

Kunyit 7 Lodge is located in the heart of the water village, Kampong Ayer.
To get there, all you have to do is hail a water taxi from on the waterfront of Bandar Seri Begawan and head directly across the river to Jetty No. 2 (about a minute’s boat ride away). The lodge will be the first thing you see after you disembark.
Fun fact: Did you know that there are approximately 32 kilometres of boardwalks zigzagging Kampong Ayer? It’s approximately 20 steps from Jetty No. 2 to the lodge!
It’s being managed by Dk Kemariah (better known as “Kem”), the owner of Kunyit 7 Lodge, a charming homestay in Kampong Ayer. She’s a renowned tour guide and one of Brunei’s top AirBnB hosts.
