No list would be complete without first mentioning Nyonya Restaurant, which has been serving Brunei since 1993. Whether it’s prawns or chicken, Nyonya Restaurant is the go-to place to satisfy your buttermilk cravings!
Pro tip: If you’re ordering buttermilk prawns, request to have them deshelled! They just taste better that way!
After a long hiatus, Nyonya Restaurant reopened its Gadong branch with a fresh new look.

Kaka Restaurant has branches in Rimba, Jerudong, Airport Mall, Mentiri, Sungai Tilong and Kiulap. And surprise, surprise! This place isn’t just a ‘nasi katok’ place. The photo (above) of the buttermilk prawn dish was taken at Kaka’s Kiulap branch. It’s located near The Boss Gym and Higher Hotel Brunei.
Pro tip: Be sure to scoop a spoonful of that delicious buttermilk sauce and pour it over your ‘nasi katok’. (You can thank us later!)
