We here at What’s Neue are always on the lookout for “hidden gems” and this time, we’ve set our sights on places to eat around Sengkurong, which is about a 30-minute drive away from the heart of the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Besides the two drive-thrus (Jollibee and KFC) along Jalan Tutong, the residents here also have access to some of the best places to grab a quick bite – be it crispy murtabaks, savoury noodles or even juicy burgers!
Check out our latest Neue Routes for some ideas for your next road trip. Be sure to bring a friend or two to share your meals with!#1. Nasi Katok Tom Yum

Tom Yum AND Nasi Katok … but how?!
Kick-start your Neue Routes adventure by trying to answer that question.
To do that, you’ll have to taste for yourself just how great this combo is by dropping by a “hidden” shophouse that’s located behind Nadj Restaurant & Hua Ho in Sengkurong.
Keep a lookout for the “Cha-Roen-Sap Sdn Bhd” signboard.
Trust me! It’s going to be a challenge for you to find this place.
But when you do, it will be worth it!
You have SIX flavours to choose from – Tom Yam, Tahai, Tomato, Biasa (normal), Pedas Hijau and Pedas Merah. But the most popular flavour among the locals is the Tom Yam.
It’s strongly recommended that you send a WhatsApp message to +6737438878 to inform the shop what you’d like to order and what time you’ll be dropping by to collect. Otherwise, you’ll be standing in line for quite some time as the place is rather popular.
#2. KK Koya

Drive along Jalan Tutong towards the direction of Bandar Seri Begawan and take a left to Jalan Mulaut-Limau Manis once you reach the traffic light junction.
Now drive along Jalan Mulaut-Limau Manis and once you see the Ban 5 signage on your left, you’ll find KK Koya on the right-hand side.
KK Koya has been around since 1939! And since then it has built quite a reputation for not just its rojak but other specialities as well such as murtabak (roti kosong) and nasi briyani.
Be sure to try their Rojak Special – which is a combination of chicken and sotong. Don’t mind the dark sauce. Oh! Don’t forget to pair your makan with a refreshing cup of Teh Tarik too!

How to get there? As you’re driving along Jalan Ban 1, keep a lookout for the Jalan Ban 4 signboard, KTM Restaurant is located close to it.
This is the go-to place for noodles such as kolomee and fried kuey teow. This is also where you can find the freshest fish cakes in Brunei as they are made in the factory that’s located just next to the canteen.
